I have used both Uber and Lyft and found that many of their employees work for both. I prefer Uber over Lyft as I am a fan of the overall experience: App, people, service, issue handling etc., and Uber consistently delivers a great experience. Very few products or services can match at that scale.
People - My most memorable rides have been with Uber and that was due to their people. There have been times we come out of meetings and just need to chill for a second and they can read that, or we are going out for the night and they match our level of enthusiasm. To me this is a big deal and its not an easy thing to accomplish consistently. We have had a few Debbie Downer rides as well but the overall majority have been excellent. I don't know how many people work for Uber as a driver but again to be able to do this consistently at scale amazes me.
Process - Consistent. Majority of the time I travel with my wife. Im not sure if this is part of the process training at Uber but every time we ride it goes like this: Driver gets out helps with bags, motions for my wife and will help with the door. Once in the car confirms destination, adjusts seat if needed (we are both tall) sometimes at the cost of their comfort. After which they ask about temp, if we need water, gum etc. Luxury is not just the object its also the service and they understand that. There are times the driver does not get out but still goes through the rest of it. Its genuine not robotic.
Tech - It just works. In recent years most products or services are just in beta and it drives me nuts. Its simple, reliable, fast and consistent. I value the technology just as much as their people as I recently thought about the way I used to get around before while on travel or after having had a few drinks. You always needed cash, atm stops, tips, unknown wait times, cab lines at events.
